Thomas Winfred “Tommy” Harmon, age 81 of Rutherfordton, died Friday, August 28, 2020 at his home. You may also light a candle in honor of Tom Harmon. He crashed in the South American jungle, en route to North Africa, and walked out six days later. Tom you were one of a kind. Played for the University of Michigan, and won the Heisman Trophy in 1940. You may also light a candle in honor of Tom Harmon. share to facebook Thomas “Tom” L. Harman, 69, of Fort Smith, AR passed away on November 1, 2019. He returned to broadcasting a couple of years later, replacing Keith Jackson as KTLA’s UCLA play-by-play announcer.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Air Force and was awarded the Silver Star and the Purple Heart. Quarterback Forest Evashevski blocked for Harmon. Tom won 14 varsity letters in four sports at Horace Mann High School in Gary.
