Finally, when Ruth discovers that Wyatt has blown his college application essay, she begins to lose her cool. Helen shows up and warns if there are children in the house they should go to their rooms. The parole officer asks Cade if he has a job and Ruth claims her boss might have a job opening for him at the Blue Cat.
Agent Petty tells Marty he’s a terrible judge of character. Jonah confirms he saw him once at the Blue Cat and then again, this morning. The Byrdes mourn a loss. Wendy meets with Wilkes about the news.
When he returns, she asks why he did that and reminds him he’s on parole. Rachel’s in jail when Agent Roy Petty (Jason Butler Harner) pays her a visit. He lets Ruth know he thinks she’s a piece of crap.

He begins to lay out photos of people – some are dead, some are not. The Byrdes and Snells exchange words over an awkward dinner. Wendy seems to be in disbelief and Marty opens up.
And this happens after he robs a diner. Cade Langmore is a sociopath and Ruth won’t survive for long in his circle of violence. After telling him that, she asks about the Snells. He just wants to work together. Wendy thinks he is jumping the gun – they still need to get the bill passed. Next episode. Cade warns Marty he’d better pray she’s alive. Old habits are hard to shake off in the second episode of Ozark season 2–but was it really necessary? He gets to the point and threatens to rat her out to the cartel for stealing cartel money. Wendy does damage control when Wilkes's pressure on Sen. Blake backfires. Darlene, however, isn’t falling for it. In the aftermath of a major loss, Marty and Rachel bond and share secrets. They’re interrupted by an official who shuts down Lickety Splitz for “improper layout.” The shutdowns don’t stop there; soon the Blue Cat is taken down until Rachel can speak with officials, then the funeral home. Wendy and Darlene are walking together when Darlene asks Wendy if her friend Wilkes funds an orphanage.
But Ruth won’t let him get the best of her–because she’s a badass and will inevitably take him down Ruth style. Wendy questions if Jonah has anything to do with it.
Ruth asks Rachel if Marty ever leaves anything there. The money is safe and cannot be traced. She lights a cigarette and begins to tell Marty her kids don’t know she smokes. Marty, Helen, and Wendy head over to the Snells. Having said that, it’s nice to get Jordana Spiro and Jason Butler Harner back into the mix. Cade is not the smartest individual but he knows one thing –Marty = money.
Unfortunately, he shoots her down.
Some misunderstandings lead to trouble as the Byrdes try a combination of persuasion and force. Plus, she can live in it.
He gives her the CliffsNotes version of what Petty said. Helen warns them that if the Feds find the poppies, there is no more deal and there is no casino.

Agent Petty promises to get a warrant within the month. Petty is angry with Rachel. Darlene continues, “We’d take more kindly to destroying our field if you could get us a baby.”. He agrees. Charles wants to let Wendy know he wasn’t looking for sex out of her. He believes that’s her first mistake. He presents his fake passport from the time the Byrdes tried to skip town. Charles Wilkes wanted something, but the price was too high.
He’ll drop a couple hundred off the price if she “sits” on his lap for an hour or two. It seems he is offering her the vote for sex, but it feels too awkward considering her and Marty haven’t really hashed out their issues. Ruth tries to make her dad proud during a boat-part heist. He offers her a way out by being an informant for the FBI. Cut back to Jonah, this time at a bank. The FBI sends out a second lure. She asks him, “Why do you think you are sitting in my car?” He’s still alive and free. Charles Wilkes’ minion pays Senator Tim Blake (Rodney Lee Rogers) a visit in the restroom. He drops the bombshell that he told Marty how she tried to kill him.
She probably thinks Marty Byrde will protect her. Another storm cloud brews in the return of Rachel Garrison, who took off with Marty’s money at the end of last season and apparently has been spending it on drugs. She wants to buy a van in case she needs to leave. She wonders if they can help him out somehow. Charlotte lies and says he doesn’t know anything. “Not without reservation, but for the benefit of our family and our family will benefit,” he says. Ruth realizes Cade must be stopped. As a Langmore, she can’t. With that, he leaves. Darlene, who’s never happy about anything, is, of course, complaining as they stand and watch. So, it passed. The Byrdes grow wary of Rachel, who deflects suspicion onto someone else. Petty’s trying to convince Marty to give it up, warning the cartel knows by now that Marty is with the FBI.
She informs him she’s seen it and they’ve talked about it. She promises to be careful. He plays along for a little while, but then smashes Ruth’s face into the dashboard, ordering her to take Marty for all she can now. Ruth (Julia Garner) is getting ready to leave when Cade’s parole officer shows up to check on him. Before she can say anything else, he asks what forces she thinks she’s messing with when a double murder is the least of her problems.
