Michael Hampton is a Funk Rock guitarist, composer and musical director and a Rock 'n Roll Hall of fame inductee with the band George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic in 1997. IMHO of course. Hampton recorded his 1st complete solo album, ÂHeavy Metal Funkason (1998) which emphasis on his rocker side. For the recording of Maggot Brain, George Clinton told guitarist Eddie Hazel to play 'like your momma had just died' – this extraordinary 10-minute solo was the result. "Ball Hog or Tug Boat" is the name. Hendrix was the better songwriter and more creative, pushing the limits, but in terms of just chops, Eddie Hazel was about as good. But you are right, that entire album is amazing. Hampton's first studio recording was Bootsy's Rubber Band's Âalbum "Stretchin' Out InÂ" (1976). Stratocasters.
