Regarding how many people that players can expect to see in the world, this changes based on events. every expansion will be new zone. Similar in the same vein as Destiny, with hopefully a different monetization scheme. However, this is not the case for certain private spaces, such as story areas or dungeons. I played lost ark and its very liniar zone by zone "open world" which felt very claustofobia, im curious if blizzard can pull it off.
Diablo 4.
While private spaces only accommodate you and your friends, the shared open-world part will have a limited number of other players running around – but shared towns and larger events could see whole armies of players fighting for loot. They're doing open world because in D3, adventure mode was so popular and no one liked how linear the campaign was. Diablo 4 has gone to an open-world map, allowing you to move between five distinct regions. “Meaning we might make a place less or more populated depending on what’s going on there.”. They have also been very open with the direction they intend to go with the game and since it's very early, i think it shows confidence from the team and that is very promising. PC Games news and reviews from PCGamesN.com.
“The number will actually be variable by location,” Angela del Priore, lead UI designer, reveals.
The campaign will take you to the overworld area, where other players are exploring – but will also initially be private, too. D2 did it well where it wasn't so linear like D3 but you still had a single story arc through the game world. The June 2020 quarterly update for Diablo 4 goes over a lot of interesting aspects of the upcoming hack-and-slash ARPG, such as open world, items and progression system and multiplayer elements. also we going to hell so id expect maybe there will be seperate map for that.if its on big scale we may visit each burnung hell lords realm as they are distinct.
Diablo 4’s open world is “shared” with other players “variable by location” Diablo IV has been revealed at last, and with the announcement came … I think there's tons of potential in the idea that they have for D4.
Diablo 4's developers recently ran a two-day playtest, and have reported back on some of their findings.

D3 felt like it tried to remove the RPG from the ARPG and just have the A left xD And the story telling suffered for it - they really didn't even give the story the chance to be told properly.
And I don't just mean perfectly rolled items like primals or high ancients, but creative, game changing, rare, UNIQUE items.
They said they are planning more than 1 expansion, so my guess is they'll be adding 1 new zone with each, which is pretty cool. I'm pretty happy with them going open world. Does it seem like the game is open for multiple expansions slowly opening up Sanctuary bit by bit to a fully player roaming open world.
Open World “One of the main new features we are bringing to the Diablo series is the open world of Sanctuary,” notes Blizzard.
Blizzard has now revealed that this open world won’t just be for you and your friends, either – it will be filled with other players, suggesting Diablo IV will be more of an MMO than previous games. Specific areas in the open world will be set aside for specific activities, such as PvP, the aforementioned activities, and “one of the many open-world systems” that Blizzard is still working on. I know a lot of people just want beefed up version of d2, (which I understand) but as gaming evolves overall, so should Diablo imo. Retail version having seasons that feel like mini expansions, and big box expansions just expanding on the standard retail version of the game (more acts, story, and more end game content that will boost season changes). The fact that they have made such a massive change even to the aesthetic look of the game, you can only hope that they are looking at every aspect of diablo and tweaking it, True but if that was their goal they should have changed the name to something like Diablo tales or Diablo world. this will be so great for diablo and opens a lot of posibillities.
Thats what i’m hoping for, rather then seasons that diablo 3 had, i hate that end game grind. Just like they did with D3 and just like they do for most every wow expansion. If its done well it could be a game changer for the Diablo franchise, and not leave die hard fans waiting 8-10 years for a new game release.
Just speaking my mind, i haven’t done too much research, if you have some info please comment.
What are we thinking about the Diablo 4 retail game looking like its mostly taking place in the North Eastern portion of Sanctuary. After you complete the “campaign objective” for that region of Diablo IV, however, that area will become a “shared” open world with players outside your party – and you’ll also get access to “open-world activities” such as public events featuring huge boss monsters.
Diablo 4 Open World & The Map What are we thinking about the Diablo 4 retail game looking like its mostly taking place in the North Eastern portion of Sanctuary.
“We want to allow more players into that space so they can tackle that challenge together,” del Priore explains.
Make it come together even further with some kind of player housing or loot hall like elder scrolls where you can display and show off your most incredible finds and others can visit and see for themselves. the open world idea was already planned by blizzard north`s diablo 3, unfortunately was cancelled. Something to keep chasing for a long time. “Dungeons continue to be private, supporting you and up to three other players,” continues del Priore. “Sanctuary should feel like a bleak and dangerous place… on occasion you might run in to one or two players, but most of the time you’re going to be alone.”.
And I agree, but before all that they really need to make a game with very solid base.
With an open world they now get the chance to have both a very replayable game that you can speed run, while also making a campaign that is 100% focused on delivering an awesome and engaging story. We’ve only seen a small glimpse of it so far in the playable demo that was shown off at … The items / skill trees as of today are looking kinda too much like diablo 3. This is the forth game in the action-RPG franchise from Blizzard Entertainment.
Does it seem like the game is open for multiple expansions slowly opening up Sanctuary bit by bit to a fully player roaming open world.
The main thing being epic rare loot.
It might turn out alright, i mean from where the original diablo 3 was ton he current version, they are completely different games.
Also! Diablo IV is an open world action-RPG developed by Blizzard Entertainment. If Sanctuary on D4 becomes a full open world, would be maybe be better to continue expansions on the game and keep it rolling on like WoW. I don’t know about everyone else but this gets me pretty pumped.
It will be possible to visit everything, and each Sanctuary map will be a mini shared online server that can host an undetermined number of players. imagine they can add events afterwards on specific locations. I just hope they create a game where you always have relevant and fun things to shoot for. I'm hoping that Diablo 4 ends up in the same expansion model as WoW, with a bit of PoE style leagues thrown in.
